Official National Weather Service Cooperative Weather Station

Welcome to the observatory online

TSWO.net is the home of the Thompson's Station Weather Observatory on the web! The Thompson's Station Weather Observatory (TSWO) was established in July 2000 and is an official cooperative weather station for the National Weather Service. TSWO has grown to provide accurate weather data for people in middle Tennessee and is a fully equipped weather station, using professional monitoring equipment and practicies, providing records of temperature, humidity, precipitation, barometric pressure, wind and various weather phenomena.

Station ID: THOT-1 Sation Number 408953

In August 2001, we added a new phase of operations, becoming an official U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) cooperative weather station and given the designation THOT1, which stands for THOmpson's Station Tennessee. The 1 indicates we are the first (and only) station representing Thompson's Station. We provide daily observations of high and low temperatures and precipitation totals using standardized NWS equipment and report by phone or internet to the NWS. From there, the records of observation are sent to the National Climatic Data Center in Ashville, North Carolina where they undergo rigorous quality control procedures, become certified as official are permanently archived. Observations from this station--as well as thousands more from around the country--help determine the current state of climate as well as climate change throughout the United States.
